Kevin, Joey, and Brian Grogan (ages 17-26) lost their mother, Audrey Grogan, and father, George Grogan, during a murder/suicide event that set off a large manhunt in the area of Bear Mountain Reservation.

The young men's loss began on Friday, Sept. 27, when George Grogan called one of his sons and told him he had killed the children's mother, Audrey Grogan.

After the call, the son notified the Town of Poughkeepsie police who minutes later responded to Grogan’s residence located at 6 Shamrock Circle in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

They found no one home, said Town of Poughkeepsie Police Capt. Michael O'Dowd.

After finding the home empty, police launched a search and notified other departments, police said.

A day later, at about 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, an employee of Bear Mountain State Park located a vehicle that was believed to have been operated by Grogan. The body of his wife was found inside, O'Dowd said.

That sequence of events set off a massive manhunt for George Grogan, who was found dead Thursday, Oct. 3, by Town of Poughkeepsie Police and New York State Police, along with other agencies, in a wooded area east of Bear Mountain Bridge.

"This traumatic event is devastating for these young men," wrote Elise Ale, organizer of the GoFundMe effort. "We are reaching out for your help to support them in their greatest time of need."

Ale said all money raised will be used for housing to allow the 17-year-old, Brian, to remain at his current high school until he graduates in June 2020.

"We extend our thoughts and prayers to the boys and their family and want to show them how much our community cares about them," Ale wrote.

To date, more than $11,000 of a $15,000 goal has been raised.
